Rain Garden

rain garden

The town has a rain garden, located adjacent to New Hope Academy on Varnum Street. Rain gardens are used to temporarily retain rainwater in order to improve the water quality by removing chemicals, nutrients, or other sediments in the water. This helps improve the water quality in nearby bodies of water. It also helps give quality water to plants rather than having bad-quality water runoff into stormwater drains and negatively impacting other larger bodies of water. Rain gardens are filled with native plants that have adapted to thriving in the area. A double bonus for having a rain garden is that it serves as a mini pollinator garden.
