Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer 


Description of Position
The Mayor and Council of the Town of Landover Hills is seeking a part-time code enforcement officer to enforce property maintenance provisions of the Code of the Town of Landover Hills. The code enforcement officer will monitor parking in the Town, conduct rental inspections, issue rental licenses, monitor property maintenance, and issue municipal infraction citations, when appropriate, for violations of the Town Code. The code enforcement officer will also perform administrative tasks. The code enforcement officer reports to the Town Code Enforcement Supervisor. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, establish and meet deadlines, exercise sound judgment, make mature decisions, build good relationships within the community, communicate well with residents, learn and interpret town ordinances, and apply rules and regulations consistently. The successful candidate will also represent the town in related court proceedings. Performance is evaluated on an annual basis.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.


Types of Duties to be Expected

  •  Contacting Animal Control related to violations
  • Issue Municipal Infraction violations
  • Investigate citizen complaints
  • Conduct follow-up investigations to ensure compliance
  • Issue Stop Work Orders
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies as needed
  • Issue tickets for safety violations and non-moving vehicle violations
  • Determine eligibility for special parking permits
  • Issue permits
  • Perform foot patrol as needed
  • Issue Rental Licenses
  • Assist with answering phones and relaying messages
  • Create a monthly code enforcement report for the Town council meeting
  • Engage in special project work
  • Occasional travel to County offices including Courthouse, Police Headquarters, and travel-related training/conferences/meetings
  • Billing of citations
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ability to work five hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (exact hours to be established upon hiring)

 Required Knowledge and Abilities

The successful candidate shall be able to:

  • learn and have working knowledge of the Town of Landover Hills Codes, including housing code, garbage, trash and litter, and property maintenance codes; 
  • read and understand the English language and comprehend town ordinances and other rules and regulations; 
  • write legibly and communicate effectively;
  • work outdoors under adverse conditions;
  • exercise sound judgment and analyze situations quickly;
  • work independently;
  • maintain accurate and detailed record;
  • work well with others;
  • stand and/or walk for several hours at a time;
  • wear Town uniform; and 
  • lift up to 20lbs.


Education, Experience, and Training

  • High School Diploma, GED, or one (1) year experience in the field that provides the same experience. Experience maintaining poise and self-control under adverse circumstances.
